Pata Family Hires Private Investigator Miami Dade
PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR MIAMI DADE
MIAMI — A Miami Dade private investigator hired by the family of slain University of Miami Dade football player Bryan Pata said Pata had received two death threats from two different people.
Diop Kamau and his public relations firm sent a letter to UM’s athletic department, stating that the Pata family seeks the following support from the university:
A trust fund to support Pata’s mother
A university-sponsored Web site to collect leads and tips on Pata’s murder
A significant fundraising effort to raise the reward from it’s current $21,000
“He’s not getting the Natalie Holloway treatment,” Kamau said. “There’s no rush to find the killer from all sources at the same time.”
“It leaves the university with two choices,” Kamau said. “Leave this kid’s mom by the side of the road, which is not what they want to do, or do something beyond what would be in their own interest.”
The University of Miami would not comment on the letter. On Tuesday, the university announced the reward for information leading to an arrest was up to $21,000 after donors had raised an additional $15,000.
“It’s a strategy we use to re-energize the case to get more tips and more information,” Cmdr. Linda O’Brien of the Miami-Dade Police Department said. “That is the purpose of reward money, for information.”
Pata was shot in the back of the head, execution-style, outside his apartment in Kendall a month ago, police said.
On Tuesday, Miami-Dade County police released a video re-enactment of Pata’s killing hoping witnesses would come forward.
“There have been threats made prior to his shooting that I know police are aware of,” Kamau said.
According to Kamau, the man who made the second phone call told Pata that he could kill him at any time.
